Chocorua Chapel Mindscape 16x24
This hand-colored montage of the Wonalancet Chapel in Tamworth NH includes elements of photography and watercolor painting. When I took the original image of this chapel it was getting dark and I stood and watched the changing scene as darkness descended upon the little valley at the base of the Chocorua Range in Tamworth, New Hampshire. Many of the images that I captured that evening have become images that sell regularly and well. However, nothing captured the pure simplicity of the ridge, the chapel and the road. This image is a photo montage that includes elements from 4 different images, created as a monochrome and then hand-painted with watercolors. The image is then scanned for production in a signed limited edition of only 25 images. I do not sell the base image from which the scanned output is derived because the watercolors fade too quickly and the image would lose its impact. Instead, the painted image is destroyed to protect the value of the limited edition which is produced with archival inks that are much longer-lived. Every image that I have produced in this fashion has shown very little bleaching in sunlight. Some have been on display for as long as 20 years.

My images often combine elements of photography, watercolor painting and digital craftsmanship. The final images are produced as signed limited edition prints on museum-quality fine art rag paper, created with archival inks and as a more affordable unsigned, open-edition print.

Signed originals are considered valued works of art because of the artist’s signature. For that reason they are created in limited numbers or a single original. They are printed on very high-quality rag fine art paper, canvas, or metal. Open-edition prints bear no signature or may have a digital stamp. They are an affordable alternative for people who simply love the work and can be purchased on various grades of paper and sizes to reflect your cost constraints. Their value is purely personal for people who love art and want to display an image.

Wayne King humorously refers to himself as a North American "mutt" with a family heritage that winds through his Native American, Canadian and US Colonial roots. His love for the philosophical founding documents and sacred stories and dreams of the Iroquois Confederacy, the US Revolutionary Founders, and the sacred artist, musicans, writers and poets whose works and images are a celebration of the circle of life, blending the real and the surreal to achieve a sense of place or time that reaches beyond the moment into what he calls "a dreamlike quintessentialism" designed to spark an emotional response. Using digital enhancement, handcrafting, painting, and sometimes even straight photography, King seeks to take the viewer to a place that is beyond simple truth to where truth meets passion, hope and dreams. No Ai resources are employed in the creation of this image. It is purely the work of the artist employing multiple media to create the final image.

With the recent explosion of images generated by artificial intelligence as well as the phenomenon of intellectual property theft, a purchaser has two general choices to make: Purchasing an unsigned, open-edition print, or purchasing a signed original work of art. Purchase of an affordable, unsigned, open-edition print should be done simply because you love the image - or it fits the theme, size, color of others you wish to display it with. Pricing on such images is generally very affordable simply because the value is in the pure joy associated with owning and displaying it.

A signed, perhaps numbered, print - especially with a separate signed certificate of authenticity - takes the image out of the realm of “reproduction print” to the singular collectible artwork realm. Signed images are actually the ONLY way to avoid the multiple conundrums that Artificial Intelligence has brought to the marketplace with art. The artist’s signature signifies its uniqueness and the inherent - present or future value of it as a work of art that has the potential of gaining value as an investment over time. Of course, there are still risks associated with purchasing a piece of art online even one that is ostensibly signed. Direct contact with the artist is usually the best way to resolve other questions and, for that reason, you have every right to expect the artist to provide you with a means for contacting him/her/them directly. We encourage you to email us with any questions you have by contacting Wayne at [email protected] .
