Part of Native artist Wayne King's "Spirit Pony" collection this edition of 5 signed original photo montages 18"x24" is printed on fine art rag paper using archival inks and created from a scene along a snowy Smart's Brook in Thornton, New Hampshire. Though King's ancestors - Iroquois and Abenaki from the northeast were not "horse people" like the Cheyenne, Sioux, Apache etc of the plains, Horses, more often referred to as ponies in Indian legend and lore, nonetheless played an ever-widening role for Native people in the years after the Spanish first brought them back to the Americas. ("Back" because prehistoric horses - Eohippus - did exist in the Americas but were probably gone before the evolution of humans.)

This image combines elements of photography, watercolor painting and digital manipulation. The final image is produced in a signed limited edition of only 5 printed on museum-quality fine art rag paper, printed with archival inks.

Signed originals are considered valued works of art because of the artist’s signature and the edition number indicating the rarity. For that reason they are created in limited numbers or a single original. They are printed on museum-quality rag fine art paper or canvas or metal. Open-edition prints bear no signature or may have a digital stamp. They are a very affordable alternative for people who simply love the work and can be purchased on various grades of paper and sizes to reflect your cost constraints. Their value is purely personal for people who love art and want to display an image.

Wayne’s images are a celebration of life, blending the real and the surreal to achieve a sense of place or time that reaches beyond the moment into what he calls a "dreamlike quintessentialism" designed to spark an emotional response. Using digital enhancement, handcrafting, painting, and sometimes even straight photography, King seeks to take the viewer to a place that is beyond simple truth to where truth meets passion, hope and dreams.

With the recent explosion of images generated by artificial intelligence as well as the phenomenon of intellectual property theft, a purchaser has two general choices to make: Purchasing an unsigned, open-edition print, or purchasing a signed original work of art. Purchase of an affordable, unsigned, open-edition print should be done simply because you love the image - or it fits the theme, size, color of others you wish to display it with. Pricing on such images is generally very affordable simply because the value is in the pure joy associated with owning and displaying it. There are no guarantees of value, source or materials associated with owning an unsigned image and it is possible that it is made, sourced or printed almost anywhere, but since you have purchased it purely for the aesthetic pleasure and the affordability that, in fact, is all that matters.

A signed, perhaps numbered, print - especially with a separate signed certificate of authenticity - takes the image out of the realm of “reproduction print” to the singular collectible artwork realm. Signed images are actually the ONLY way to avoid the multiple conundrums that Artificial Intelligence has brought to the marketplace with art. The artist’s signature signifies its uniqueness and the inherent - present or future value of it as a work of art that has the potential of gaining value as an investment over time. Of course, there are still risks associated with purchasing a piece of art online even one that is ostensibly signed. Direct contact with the artist is usually the best way to resolve other questions and, for that reason, you have every right to expect the artist to provide you with a means for contacting him/her/them directly.
